Former New York State correctional officer Christopher Walrath will be sentenced for his involvement in the beating death of inmate Robert Brooks in December 2024. Walrath pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter and faces a 15-year sentence. Brooks, who was serving a 12-year sentence for assault, was transferred to Marcy Correctional Facility on the day of the beating. Prosecutors have not determined a motive for the deadly assault.
