Texas Primary Election Update: Sid Miller Leads Republican Race, Chip Roy and Mayes Middleton Ahead in Attorney General Race

The latest University of Houston poll indicates that Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller is leading the Republican primary race with a significant 30-point advantage over his challenger Nate Sheets. Governor Greg Abbott has endorsed Sheets, emphasizing the need for an agriculture commissioner with a strong stance against criminal activities. The primary elections are scheduled for March 3, with early voting starting on February 17. If no candidate secures a clear majority, a runoff will be held on May 26.
In the race for Texas attorney general, U.S. Rep. Chip Roy and state Sen. Mayes Middleton are currently leading the pack, followed by state Sen. Joan Huffman and Aaron Reitz. Acting Comptroller Kelly Hancock is trailing in third place in the poll. Former state Sen. Don Huffines and Railroad Commissioner Christi Craddick are leading in their respective races and are likely to advance to the runoff.
The Texas Railroad Commission race is also heading towards a runoff, with incumbent Chairman Jim Wright and James “Jim” Matlock closely tied in the poll. Former Tarrant County Republican Party Chairman Bo French is trailing behind in voter preference. On the Democratic side, state Rep. Gina Hinojosa is leading the gubernatorial race by a significant margin, with no other candidate coming close to her level of support.
In the Democratic primary for attorney general, state Sen. Nathan Johnson and Joe Jaworski are neck and neck in the poll results, indicating a potential runoff between the two candidates in May. The primary elections are crucial in determining the candidates who will represent their parties in the upcoming general election.
