Kyle Busch Aims to Break Daytona 500 Winless Streak in 21st Start
Kyle Busch will be starting from the pole position in the Daytona 500 on Sunday after securing the top spot in front row qualifying with a lap of 183.925 MPH. This lap pushed Chase Briscoe out of the top spot in the final round of qualifying. Busch will be making his 21st start in the Daytona 500 as he aims for his first win in NASCAR's premier race.
Busch's winless streak in the Daytona 500 is the longest among active drivers, surpassing even Dale Earnhardt's streak before he won in 1998. Both Busch and Earnhardt have driven for Richard Childress Racing, with Busch currently in his fourth season with the team after moving from Joe Gibbs Racing. The 40-year-old driver is hoping to replicate his past success with JGR.
Throughout his career, Busch has accumulated 63 Cup Series wins in 750 starts, but he has not won a race in the last two seasons. His most successful years were with JGR, where he won two Cup Series titles in 2015 and 2019. Despite his success, Daytona has not been a particularly favorable track for Busch, with only one win and 13 top-10 finishes in 41 starts.
As Busch prepares for the Daytona 500, he will be looking to break his winless streak and add another milestone to his impressive racing career.
