Jason Momoa to Star in Helldivers Movie: A Sci-Fi Adventure Set for 2027 Release
Jason Momoa has been cast in the upcoming film adaptation of the video game franchise Helldivers by PlayStation Productions and Sony Pictures. The movie, set to be directed by Justin Lin, is scheduled to be released on November 10, 2027. Helldivers, a popular game that debuted in 2015, follows the story of elite soldiers fighting alien creatures on the fictional planet of Super Earth. The sequel, Helldivers 2, has sold over 12 million units across PS5 and PC platforms since its launch in 2024 and has recently expanded to Xbox.
The production of the Helldivers movie is being handled by Hutch Parker, Asad Qizilbash from PlayStation Productions, and Justin Lin's Perfect Storm Entertainment. This collaboration between Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions follows their successful projects like Uncharted, Twisted Metal, and The Last of Us. Jason Momoa, who is set to play the role of an intergalactic bounty hunter Lobo in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, is having a busy year with multiple film projects, including The Wrecking Crew, Animal Friends, Street Fighter, and Dune: Part Three.
Jason Momoa, known for his role as Aquaman in the DC universe, has also appeared in other successful films like Fast X and A Minecraft Movie. He gained recognition for his portrayal of Khal Drogo in HBO's Game of Thrones and recently starred in the Apple TV+ limited series Chief Of War.
