Exploring the Contemporary World: A Sneak Peek at Mike Leigh's Untitled 2025 Film

Mike Leigh has revealed some details about his upcoming film, tentatively titled "Untitled Mike Leigh 2025." The movie remains shrouded in secrecy regarding its plot, but the lead cast has been announced. The film will feature Marion Bailey, Paul Jesson, Kate O’Flynn, and Alice Bailey Johnson, all of whom have worked with Leigh before. The production is scheduled to conclude in London next week, adding to the anticipation surrounding the project.

The behind-the-scenes team includes frequent collaborators such as costume designer Jacqueline Durran, hair and make-up designer Nora Robertson, and production designer Jane Brodie. The film will also feature the musical talents of composer Gary Yershon, editor Tania Reddin, director of photography Lucy Bristow, and casting director Nina Gold. Distribution rights have been secured by Bleecker Street for the U.S. and StudioCanal for the U.K., with Cornerstone Films handling international sales.

Georgina Lowe of Thin Man Films is producing the project, with Gail Egan serving as executive producer. Film4 is co-financing the film in partnership with Desmar, Merino Films, Ventureland, and Creativity Media. Cornerstone Films has secured distribution deals in various territories, including Switzerland, Benelux, Greece, the Middle East, Turkey, Australia, New Zealand, and Ex-Yugoslavia.

The film is expected to continue Mike Leigh's tradition of exploring the contemporary world with his unique perspective. Fans of Leigh's work, which includes acclaimed films like "Secrets & Lies," "Vera Drake," and "Happy-Go-Lucky," are eagerly anticipating this new project. Leigh's previous film, "Hard Truths," released in 2024, received critical acclaim and showcased Marianne Jean-Baptiste's exceptional performance. The film garnered multiple awards for Jean-Baptiste and received a BAFTA nomination for outstanding British film and leading actress.
