Empowering Socially Relevant Storytelling: The Business of Impact Lab & Pitch 2026

The inaugural edition of the UK development lab, The Business of Impact Lab & Pitch, has selected 10 titles from 20 producers for its five-month development program. The lab aims to enhance commercial strategy, financial packaging, and real-world impact planning for projects seeking to combine artistic excellence with social engagement. The program includes virtual sessions, an in-person development day, and a live pitch event in June 2026 to financiers and key stakeholders.

Among the selected projects are "An Alteration" by Caspian Films, "Four Ordinary Women" by Sixteen Films, and "After You’d Gone" by Wellington Films. These projects explore themes of social relevance and aim to challenge the imbalance in accessing financing, visibility, and pathways to market for socially relevant scripted films. The lab seeks to expand investment opportunities for these stories by engaging with philanthropy, foundations, brands, and equity partners.

The Business of Impact Lab is supported by the BFI Creative Challenge Fund, which aims to enable producers to sustain careers and deliver creative visions at scale. The selected projects represent a diverse range of genres and producers, reflecting a dynamic cross-section of the industry. The lab provides a platform for producers to bridge the gap between creative ambition and market readiness, fostering meaningful social engagement through impactful storytelling.

The selected projects for The Business of Impact Lab & Pitch include "After You’d Gone," "An Alteration," "Black Samphire," "Four Ordinary Women," "It’s A Fake," "Jem," "Madison," "Shorelines," "Stolen," and "The Lido." These projects showcase the creativity and innovation of producers in addressing social issues and creating impactful narratives that resonate with audiences. The lab aims to empower producers to bring their creative visions to life and make a positive impact on society through storytelling.
