Revolutionizing EV Charging: Kiwi Charge's Autonomous Solutions for Urban Infrastructure

Kiwi Charge has launched an innovative project for autonomous electric vehicle (EV) charging with substantial funding from the Government of Ontario, General Motors Canada, and Pfaff Automotive. The project aims to develop mobile EV charging solutions using AI, robotics, and electrification to address the lack of EV charging infrastructure. The investment of $1.7 million includes a grant from the OVIN R&D Partnership Fund and funding from industry partners. Kiwi Charge will showcase its latest autonomous charging robot at the Canadian International AutoShow alongside Project Arrow, Canada’s first zero-emissions concept vehicle.

The Kiwi Charge project focuses on creating scalable solutions to overcome EV charging challenges in public and private spaces, particularly in older buildings where installing fixed chargers can be expensive. The funding will support the development and testing of autonomous charging units, enabling the startup to run pilots with real estate and automotive dealership partners and leverage Ontario’s AI ecosystem for rapid iteration.

In urban areas, where installing fixed chargers in multi-tenant buildings is cost-prohibitive, Kiwi Charge offers a solution with its mobile autonomous charging units. These units combine robotic mobility, AI-based fleet intelligence, and on-demand EV charging without the need for extensive infrastructure upgrades. The goal is to accelerate the electrification of older buildings in alignment with Ontario’s climate and innovation priorities. Additionally, Kiwi Charge is developing a manual mobile unit for automotive dealerships to enhance fleet management and turnover efficiency.

Kiwi Charge's innovative approach to EV charging, supported by OVIN and industry partners, aims to revolutionize urban infrastructure by leveraging robotics and AI expertise. The collaboration with General Motors Canada reflects a commitment to sustainable mobility and encouraging EV adoption. Ontario's support for homegrown companies like Kiwi Charge demonstrates the province's leadership in EV innovation and its contribution to a cleaner, smarter mobility future.
