From Defeat to Donation: How the NFL and Good360 Repurpose Losing Team's Super Bowl Gear

After the Seattle Seahawks secured their Super Bowl victory, championship merchandise flooded the market, just as it would have if the New England Patriots had won. The NFL prepares for both outcomes by producing pre-printed merchandise for the winning and losing teams. However, what happens to the losing team's gear that fans will never get to purchase? For the past 12 years, the NFL has partnered with the nonprofit Good360 to repurpose the unsellable apparel from the Super Bowl. Good360 collects the losing team's merchandise and distributes it to foreign nonprofits in need.
This year, the losing team's gear will be sent to nonprofits in low-income rural communities in Eastern Europe, including Moldova, Latvia, Poland, Estonia, and Tajikistan. Good360 works with the NFL to ensure that the merchandise is diverted from landfills and reaches individuals who can benefit from it. The organization's vice president of corporate development and partnerships, Tom Davis, emphasized the impact of providing these donations to those in need, stating that it can truly change lives.
Good360 also handles the unsellable merchandise from the NFC and AFC Championship games, sending gear from teams like the Los Angeles Rams and Denver Broncos to recipients abroad. The selection of donation recipients varies each year based on factors such as need and location. To maintain the NFL's brand integrity, Good360 carefully vets the organizations receiving the merchandise to prevent it from being resold to the public.
In 2024, Good360 assured that the losing team's merchandise would not resurface in the market. The organization's partnership with the NFL ensures that the gear is repurposed for a meaningful cause and does not go to waste. By redirecting the unsellable merchandise to those in need, Good360 and the NFL contribute to making a positive impact on communities around the world.
