Rogue Squadron: The Uncertain Future of the Star Wars Project

Lucasfilm had initially announced a "Rogue Squadron" film project about five years ago, with filmmaker Patty Jenkins and a life-sized X-Wing involved. However, the project faced delays and was briefly canceled in 2023. Jenkins moved on to work on "Wonder Woman 3," which was also canceled before the DC Studios takeover by Gunn-Safran.
Recent rumors suggested that the "Rogue Squadron" project might be redeveloped as a live-action TV series. However, with Kathleen Kennedy stepping down as Lucasfilm President, the future of various "Star Wars" projects, including "Rogue Squadron," remains uncertain.
Matthew Robinson, the writer attached to the original "Rogue Squadron" film, shared in an interview that he is as clueless about the project's status as everyone else. The "Star Wars" universe currently has limited new live-action series in development, with only "Ahsoka" Season 2 confirmed for this year and a series produced by Carlton Cuse and Nick Cuse in the works.
While the live-action series side seems to be slowing down, the film side of the "Star Wars" franchise appears to be picking up momentum. "The Mandalorian & Grogu" is set to launch in May, and "Star Wars: Starfighter" is scheduled for release next year. The future of the "Rogue Squadron" project remains uncertain amidst these developments.
