John Mellencamp Opens Up About 'R.O.C.K. in the U.S.A.' and Announces Dancing Words Tour

John Mellencamp recently shared his feelings about one of his popular songs, "R.O.C.K. in the U.S.A. (A Salute To 60's Rock)," during an episode of Real Time With Bill Maher. Despite his initial dislike for the track, it ended up being included on his successful 1985 album Scarecrow. Mellencamp revealed that he was pressured by his record label to include the song on the album, even though he believed it was "stupid and silly."
The singer explained that he usually keeps his music away from record label input, but in this case, he made the mistake of letting someone hear "R.O.C.K. in the U.S.A.," and they insisted it was a hit. Mellencamp resisted, as he felt the song didn't fit the album's theme, but ultimately had to compromise and include it on Scarecrow.
Despite his initial reluctance, Mellencamp announced that "R.O.C.K. in the U.S.A." will be part of his upcoming Dancing Words tour, where he will perform all his biggest hits. The tour is set to start on July 10 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and will wrap up on Aug. 12 in Mountain View, California. Tickets for the tour are currently available for purchase.
Fans can expect to hear the controversial song along with Mellencamp's other chart-topping hits during the tour. Don't miss the chance to see him live and enjoy a night of classic rock music.
