Rare Wings: Unveiling Paul McCartney's Seventies Gems on Amazon Music

Paul McCartney and Wings have released two rare versions of songs from the Seventies on Amazon Music in anticipation of the upcoming soundtrack for the documentary Paul McCartney: Man on the Run. The soundtrack, titled Man on the Run — Music from the Motion Picture Soundtrack, is set to be released on February 27 and includes 12 songs, including a rough mix of “Arrow Through Me” and “Live and Let Die (Rockshow).”
The original version of “Arrow Through Me” from the album Back to the Egg (1979) featured a funky rock ballad with a bouncy analog synth line and horns reminiscent of Stevie Wonder's work. The newly unveiled rough mix highlights McCartney's vocals with echoey effects that playfully weave his voice in and out of the mix, enhancing his scatting.
The live version of “Live and Let Die” from the mid-Seventies, recorded for the 1980 concert film Rockshow, begins with an introduction by Linda McCartney, setting the stage for the British secret agent theme of the song. McCartney's solo piano rendition transitions into the explosive performance loved by Wings fans since 1973, with a crisp and cutting guitar solo by Jimmy McCulloch.
Another rare track, “Gotta Sing Gotta Dance,” originally featured in The James Paul McCartney TV Special in 1973, will also be included in the album. The documentary focuses on McCartney's journey in forming Wings after the Beatles disbanded, featuring interviews with Paul, Linda, Mary, and Stella McCartney, as well as other Wings members, Sean Ono Lennon, Mick Jagger, Chrissie Hynde, and more. The film captures McCartney's sentiment of freedom when starting Wings and the sense of accomplishment they felt.
