Maryland Man Faces Attempted Murder Charges for Targeting Government Official: The Case of Colin Demarco
A man from Maryland is facing attempted murder charges after showing up at the home of Office of Management and Budget Director Russell Vought in Northern Virginia. Colin Demarco, 26, was arrested by Arlington County Police on several criminal charges and is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 23. Demarco had claimed to be writing a manifesto and had drafted notes detailing a weapons stash and a "Body Disposal Guide." He is accused of plotting to murder a victim with the initials "R.V.," who was involved in Project 2025 funded by the Heritage Foundation, aiming to reshape the government's power structure.
Vought, known for his controversial actions in the Trump administration, has received numerous violent threats and is now under the protection of the U.S. Marshals Service. Demarco was captured on a Ring doorbell camera at Vought's home wearing gloves, a backpack, sunglasses, and a surgical mask. He denied having a gun or intent to harm anyone but expressed fear of a fascist takeover and admiration for a murderer. Messages on Discord revealed his desire to kill the president and his knowledge of Vought's address.
Law enforcement found notes in Demarco's iCloud account discussing a weapons stash and a "Body Disposal Guide." Despite law enforcement's belief that firearms were at his residence, a search did not uncover any weapons. Demarco's Discord messages indicated his willingness to take extreme actions and seek out individuals' homes. He has been on law enforcement's radar in the past for his concerning behavior. The case highlights the serious threats faced by government officials and the need for enhanced security measures to ensure their safety.
