Indiana University Football: Coaching Changes and Updates

Curt Cignetti, the head coach of the Indiana University football team, is currently looking to fill a coaching position on his staff. Reports have confirmed that IU quarterbacks coach Chandler Whitmer will be leaving the Hoosiers to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFL. This marks the second consecutive offseason that Indiana will need to find a new quarterbacks coach. Whitmer was brought on board by Cignetti last year after Tino Sunseri departed to take on the role of offensive coordinator at UCLA. Sunseri's tenure at UCLA was short-lived as he was relieved of his duties midseason due to the team's struggles.
Whitmer's background includes a stint with the Atlanta Falcons in 2024 as a pass game specialist, and prior to that, he served as an offensive quality control coach for the Los Angeles Chargers. During his time at IU, Whitmer played a key role in coaching Fernando Mendoza, who had a remarkable season that earned him numerous postseason accolades, including IU's first-ever Heisman Trophy. Mendoza set a new program record for single-season touchdowns with 41 and amassed the second-highest yardage total in a single season with 3,535 yards.
