Exploring the Mind: Peter Gabriel's New Song 'Put the Bucket Down' and the Concept of Thought Writing

Peter Gabriel has recently released a new song titled "Put the Bucket Down" to coincide with the latest full moon. This track is part of his upcoming album o/i, which is the follow-up to his 2023 release i/o. The song explores themes of mind reading and thought writing through a brain/computer interface, creating a dream-like atmosphere. Gabriel mentioned that this song is part of a larger project centered around the brain, where the protagonist questions whether the thoughts he experiences are his own or someone else's.
"Put the Bucket Down" is now available on various digital platforms. Following the pattern set with his previous album i/o, Gabriel plans to release a new song with each full moon throughout the year. By the end of 2026, the complete album, along with Dark-Side and Bright-Side mixes by Tchad Blake and Mark "Spike" Stent, respectively, will be available. Fans can look forward to the Tchad Blake Dark-Side Mix of the song, which is set to be released later this month.
