Screenwriting Duo Danya Jimenez and Hannah McMechan Tapped for Tim Burton's Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman Remake
Danya Jimenez and Hannah McMechan, the talented screenwriting team behind the popular animated film KPop Demon Hunters, have secured a major project with Warner Bros. Pictures. They have been chosen to write the screenplay for Tim Burton's modern take on the classic B-movie, Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman. Burton will direct the film, with Andrew Mittman and Tommy Harper producing, and LuckyChap also involved in the production. Kai Dolbashian is serving as executive producer.
Originally released in 1958, Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman follows the story of a wealthy heiress who transforms into a giantess and faces challenges with her unfaithful husband and his mistress. Warner Bros. has been working on a remake of the film since 2024, with Gillian Flynn previously attached as the writer. Jimenez and McMechan expressed their excitement about exploring the theme of a giant woman seeking revenge for mistreatment, believing it will resonate with many viewers.
Despite the success of KPop Demon Hunters, which became a global sensation after streaming on Netflix and receiving numerous awards and nominations, the focus has now shifted to the talented writers behind the scenes. Jimenez and McMechan, who bonded over their love for comedy and interest in portraying complex female characters, are now working on new projects, including an original series titled A Really Bad Person and a queer western feature film. They have also been involved in developing projects for DreamWorks Animation and are currently working on TV shows for Apple+ and Comedy Central.
