Richard Dimitri, known for his roles in various films and TV shows, including When Things Were Rotten, Johnny Dangerously, and Let It Ride, has passed away at the age of 83 in Los Angeles. He battled heart and lung illness for many years before his death. Dimitri, a native New Yorker of Assyrian descent, was also involved in creating the sitcom Daddy Dearest and writing for other network comedies.
Dimitri's career included appearances on Broadway and in films such as Johnny Dangerously and Let It Ride, where he portrayed memorable characters like Roman Moronie and Johnny Cheeseburger. Despite his success in the entertainment industry, Dimitri faced personal challenges, including the abandonment of his father at a young age and the loss of his son, John, to a rare congenital heart defect.
After leaving show business due to health issues, Dimitri pursued a second career as an art and antiques dealer, owning a gallery in Los Angeles with his wife, Christianne Engs. He made significant sales, including a masterpiece to The Getty Museum. In memory of his son, donations can be made to The John Dimitri Research Foundation for Congenital Heart Disease.
