Rolls-Royce's Commitment to Customization and Electric Future: A Look at the Spectre and Bespoke Program
Rolls-Royce CEO Chris Brownridge recently discussed the company's commitment to producing vehicles that cater to customer demand, including electric vehicles. Despite a decline in sales of the Spectre, Rolls-Royce's first all-electric vehicle, the brand will continue to invest in its customer experience, focusing on customization options and private offices for client consultations. Brownridge emphasized that while more electric-powered Rolls-Royces will be launched, the brand's iconic V12 engine models will also be maintained to meet client preferences.
The launch of the Spectre in late 2023 marked Rolls-Royce's shift towards electric vehicles, aligning with its decision to phase out internal combustion engine (ICE) powertrains by 2030. However, the luxury automaker faces challenges as European competitors like Volvo and Mercedes-Benz have scaled back their electric vehicle plans due to declining market demand. Regulatory changes, such as the EU's revised 2035 ban on new ICE car sales and U.S. emissions regulations, have further impacted the industry's shift towards electric vehicles.
Despite an initial positive sales reception for the Spectre in 2024, recent data indicates a 45% year-over-year decline in deliveries within the first three quarters of 2025. While overall Rolls-Royce vehicle sales have increased, the Spectre's contribution to total sales has decreased significantly. Brownridge noted that this sales pattern is consistent with previous models like the Wraith and Dawn, which experienced stable demand over their life cycles.
Rolls-Royce's focus on customization options has been a key revenue driver for the brand, with customers increasingly opting for unique features such as vibrant colors, luxurious interiors, and personalized details. The brand's average selling price has risen significantly over the past decade, with a growing number of cars priced above £1 million. Rolls-Royce's emphasis on bespoke customer experiences, including personalized consultations in private offices worldwide, reflects its commitment to delivering tailored luxury vehicles.
The brand's investment in enhancing its Bespoke program, as highlighted by Rolls-Royce North America's president Jon Colbeth, underscores its dedication to providing personalized vehicles for discerning clients. The expansion of the Goodwood plant in England aims to streamline the customization process and ensure that each Rolls-Royce reflects the unique preferences of its owner. By prioritizing individualized experiences and exclusive features, Rolls-Royce continues to differentiate itself in the ultra-luxury automotive market, setting a high standard for bespoke craftsmanship and customer satisfaction.
