Dean Williams, a renowned still and set photographer with an extensive portfolio of over 160 productions, has passed away, as announced by the Central Illinois Film Commission. Williams, a key figure in the Central Illinois film and creative community, was instrumental in promoting the region as a desirable location for film and media production. Through his leadership at the Central Illinois Film Commission, Williams facilitated connections between local talent and significant projects, attracting productions to the area and fostering opportunities for creatives to flourish locally.

Williams, a member of the International Cinematographers Guild (IATSE Local 600), had an impressive list of credits that included iconic films such as The Blues Brothers, Coal Miner's Daughter, and Caddyshack. In addition to his work in Hollywood, Williams owned Dean Williams Photography, specializing in professional portraits, weddings, and events. He also played a crucial role in preserving regional film knowledge through the Springfield Historic Media Center, an initiative of the Central Illinois Film Commission dedicated to digitizing and safeguarding media for future generations.

Described as a connector, mentor, and advocate for Central Illinois, Williams leaves behind a lasting legacy through the projects he championed, the individuals he supported, and the creative community he helped nurture. His contributions to Springfield and the surrounding region will be remembered and cherished by many. Visitation for Dean Williams will be held at Staab Funeral Home in Springfield, Illinois, on Thursday, Jan. 8, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and on Friday, Jan. 9, from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Following the service, burial will take place at Camp Butler, with all attendees welcome to pay their respects to the late photographer and advocate. Dean Williams' legacy as a visionary and dedicated supporter of the arts in Central Illinois will continue to inspire and resonate within the creative community.
