Broadway performer and social media influencer Bret Hanna-Shuford, known for his work on stage and his family life with husband Stephen Hanna-Shuford and their son Maverick, has passed away at the age of 46 after a battle with cancer. Bret was diagnosed with hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis and peripheral T-cell lymphoma in the summer of 2025, conditions that affect the immune system and require urgent treatment.
Throughout his illness, Bret and his husband shared updates on social media about his condition and treatment. Despite being in the hospital for months, Bret remained positive and expressed his love for his family. A GoFundMe campaign was launched to support Bret and his family with medical expenses and time away from work during treatment.
Bret, who had appeared in various Broadway and touring productions, was pursuing a graduate degree at the University of Central Florida but had to pause his studies to undergo chemotherapy. His final video post in December 2025 expressed gratitude for the support he had received during his illness.
