Dartmouth Resident Charged in Tragic New Year's Eve Crash Resulting in Death of Nicolasa Ventura Colaj

A Dartmouth resident has been charged with Negligent Motor Vehicle Homicide and Leaving the Scene Death Resulting in connection to a tragic New Year's Eve crash that resulted in the death of Nicolasa Ventura Colaj, a 33-year-old woman from New Bedford, MA. The incident occurred as Colaj was leaving a church gathering with her family on Acushnet Avenue. The 16-year-old juvenile involved is set to appear in court for arraignment on Monday, 1/5/26.

Initial findings from the investigation indicate that Colaj and her family were leaving the church event when she was struck by an SUV while crossing the road. The impact caused her to be thrown a distance, and the SUV fled the scene. Emergency services responded to the scene, and Colaj was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
