Damar Hamlin: From Cardiac Arrest to Community Champion

Damar Hamlin, a safety for the Buffalo Bills, experienced a life-threatening cardiac arrest during an NFL game against the Cincinnati Bengals in January 2023. The incident led to a suspension of the game and Hamlin receiving CPR on the field before being rushed to the hospital. After spending time in the hospital and undergoing recovery, Hamlin founded the "Chasing M’s Foundation" to support youth through sports, health, education, and community engagement, with a focus on CPR training and AED access.

Following his cardiac event, Hamlin collaborated with the American Heart Association to raise awareness about CPR. The "3 for Heart Challenge" encourages people to learn Hands-Only CPR, donate to fund CPR training, and challenge friends to do the same. Inspired by Hamlin's recovery, Abbott Laboratories launched the "Abbott HeartMates" program, celebrating individuals' heart-related comeback stories and providing support for those with heart conditions and their caregivers.

Hamlin's involvement in promoting heart health extended to his participation in the Hallmark Channel Christmas movie "Holiday Touchdown: A Bills Love Story" and "The More the Merrier," where he appeared alongside children and teens from the Abbott HeartMates program. Through his engagement with the HeartMates community, Hamlin formed personal connections with individuals overcoming health challenges, emphasizing the importance of support and camaraderie in the journey to recovery.
