Utah Utes Triumph Over Nebraska in New Year's Eve Showdown: Dampier Shines in Victory
The Utah Utes have been through a whirlwind of changes recently, with Kyle Whittingham leaving for Michigan and Morgan Scalley stepping up as the new head coach. Despite rumors of assistant coaches and players potentially leaving, the Utes managed to defeat Nebraska 44-22 on New Year's Eve. Junior quarterback Devon Dampier had an outstanding performance with five total touchdowns, 310 passing yards, and 148 rushing yards. The defense held Nebraska to 182 passing yards and 161 rushing yards.
Nebraska initially took a 14-7 lead in the first quarter, but Utah quickly responded. Dampier connected with tight end JJ Buchanan for a 20-yard touchdown to tie the game at 14-14. Kicker Dillon Curtis added a field goal to give Utah a 17-14 lead before Dampier scored his second rushing touchdown of the game, putting the Utes ahead 24-14 at halftime.
In the second half, Utah continued to dominate. Running back NaQuari Rodgers and Dampier added more touchdowns to extend the lead. A pass to Dallen Bentley in the fourth quarter sealed the victory with a final score of 44-14. With the season over, Utah and Scalley will now focus on the offseason as they prepare for potential changes with the NCAA transfer portal opening soon.
