A catastrophic flash flood along the Guadalupe River in Kerr County, Texas, in July 2025 devastated Camp Mystic, a Christian girls' summer camp that had been in operation for nearly a century. The camp's director, Dick Eastland, tragically lost his life while trying to save campers as floodwaters rapidly engulfed the campgrounds.
Eastland, who had been leading the camp since the 1970s, was fondly remembered by former campers and staff as a caring and selfless leader who dedicated his life to protecting the children under his care.

A heart-stopping ocean rescue took place aboard a Disney Dream cruise ship when a 5-year-old girl fell overboard while the vessel was sailing between the Bahamas and Florida.
