Remembering Perry Bamonte: A Tribute to The Cure's Legendary Guitarist and Keyboardist

The Cure's longtime guitarist and keyboardist, Perry Bamonte, passed away at the age of 65 during the Christmas holiday. The band confirmed his death on their official website, mentioning that he died after a brief illness. Perry, known as "Teddy," was described as a warm-hearted and creative member of The Cure, having played various instruments and performed in numerous shows over the years.

Perry Bamonte officially joined The Cure in 1990 and contributed to five albums, including "Wish," "Wild Mood Swings," and "Bloodflowers." He played a significant role in the band's history, rejoining them in 2022 for more shows, which were considered some of the best in the band's history. His last performance with The Cure was in November 2024 during the "The Show of a Lost World" concert in London.

Before becoming a musician for The Cure, Perry Bamonte started as part of the band's road crew in 1984. He became a full-time member in 1990 when the keyboardist, Roger O'Donnell, left. Despite leaving The Cure in 2005, Perry continued his music career by joining the rock supergroup Love Amongst Ruin in 2012 and contributing to their album "Lose Your Way" in 2015.

In 2019, Perry reunited with The Cure for their Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, where they performed some of their classic songs. His final performance with the band was in November 2024 to promote their album "Songs of a Lost World." Perry's contribution to The Cure's legacy will be greatly missed, and his impact on the band's music will always be remembered.

The Cure, formed in 1976 by Robert Smith, Michael Dempsey, and Lol Tolhurst, has been a prominent figure in the music industry, receiving four Grammy Award nominations. Perry Bamonte is survived by his wife, Donna. His dedication to music and his role in shaping The Cure's sound will forever be cherished by fans and the music community.
