Florida Gators Defensive Back Sharif Denson Enters Transfer Portal: What You Need to Know

Florida Gators junior defensive back Sharif Denson has announced his decision to enter the transfer portal, with one year of eligibility left. Denson had a solid performance last season, starting in 11 out of 12 games and recording 53 tackles, 2.0 TFL, a pass breakup, and four quarterback hurries. In the previous season, he started six games and accumulated 37 tackles, 2.0 sacks, 5.0 TFL, two pass breakups, one interception, a forced fumble, and a QB hurry.
The NCAA Transfer Portal is a private database that includes the names of student-athletes looking to transfer across all NCAA divisions. The process of entering the portal is initiated through a school's compliance office, where the player's name is added to the database upon written notification of intent to transfer. Once in the portal, other schools can contact the player, and the player can withdraw at any time. However, entering the portal means the current scholarship is no longer guaranteed.
Players in the portal can request a "do not contact" tag to avoid unsolicited communication from schools. The window for FBS players to enter the portal opens on Jan. 2 and closes on Jan. 16.
