James Gunn Addresses Rumors About The Batman 2 Cast and Plot Changes

James Gunn recently addressed a rumor on social media regarding The Batman 2 and its potential cast. The rumor suggested that Gunn had stopped Matt Reeves from introducing a realistic version of the Batman villain Clayface in the upcoming film. Gunn dismissed the rumor, stating that the script for The Batman 2 has remained the same since the beginning.
The original film, released in 2022, was a huge success, grossing over $770 million at the box office. The Batman 2, also known as The Batman Part II, is set to begin production at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in London on January 1, 2026. Robert Pattinson will reprise his role as Batman, with Scarlett Johansson rumored to be involved in the film as Harvey Dent's wife.
Other cast members from the original film, such as Colin Farrell as The Penguin, Andy Serkis as Alfred, and Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon, are expected to return for the sequel. Co-written by Reeves and Mattson Tomlin, The Batman 2 is scheduled for release in the United States on October 1, 2027. Production on the film is set to start in the upcoming spring.
