Murder Suspect Deemed Mentally Incompetent: Trial Unlikely for Accused Killer of American Idol Music Supervisor and Husband

The suspect in the murders of American Idol music supervisor Robin Kaye and her husband Thomas Deluca will not face trial. 22-year-old Raymond Boodarian, arrested in connection with the killings, has been deemed mentally incompetent to stand trial by Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Maria Cavalluzzi. Boodarian, who has refused to appear in court or communicate with his attorney, will be sent to a state hospital instead. The couple died in a double homicide at their home in Encino, Calif., with Boodarian identified through video surveillance in the home. The criminal case was suspended in August due to doubts about Boodarian's ability to stand trial, as he exhibited non-responsive behavior in court and severe mental health issues. If convicted, Boodarian could face life imprisonment without parole or the death penalty. The case will be revisited in a follow-up status hearing in March 2026.
