Chris Evans Returns as Captain America in Avengers: Doomsday - Cast, Plot, and Release Date Revealed!
Chris Evans is set to reprise his role as Steve Rogers, also known as Captain America, in the upcoming film Avengers: Doomsday. The first teaser trailer for the movie was shown before Avatar: Fire and Ash screenings, featuring Steve Rogers holding a newborn baby. The teaser revealed the release date of December 2026 and hinted at more teasers to come focusing on different characters.
Evans has played Steve Rogers in several Marvel movies, starting with Captain America: The First Avenger in 2011 and concluding with Avengers: Endgame in 2019. In Endgame, Steve passed on his shield to Sam Wilson after reuniting with Peggy Carter. Earlier this year, Evans initially stated he would not be part of Avengers: Doomsday, but recent developments have confirmed his return.
Avengers: Doomsday details were unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2024, including the new title and the introduction of Doctor Doom as the main villain, portrayed by Robert Downey Jr. Downey expressed his excitement about playing the complex character of Doctor Doom. The film will also feature the Fantastic Four and the Thunderbolts, with a star-studded cast including Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Sebastian Stan, Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Wyatt Russell, Olga Kurylenko, Hannah John-Kamen, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Lewis Pullman.
Additional cast members confirmed to return for Avengers: Doomsday include Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Danny Ramirez, Paul Rudd, Tom Hiddleston, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, and Simu Liu. The X-Men will also make an appearance in the film, with actors like Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, and Kelsey Grammer joining the ensemble. Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to hit theaters on December 18, 2026.
