USC Trojans Face Challenges as Star Guard Rodney Rice Sidelined for Season

The USC Trojans received unfortunate news as star guard Rodney Rice will miss the rest of the season due to a shoulder injury that requires surgery. Rice, a critical player for USC's offense, had been a top scorer for the team before his injury, averaging 20.3 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 3.3 assists in the six games he played this season.

Rice's absence leaves a significant gap in the Trojans' lineup, but they will look to Chad Baker-Mazara to continue leading the team. Baker-Mazara, an Auburn transfer, has been outstanding on both ends of the court and could help USC make a strong push in March with his experience from the 2025 Final Four team.

In addition to Rice, USC is also missing guard Amarion Dickerson, who is out with a hip injury for three to four months. Dickerson, the 2024-25 Horizon League Defensive Player of the Year, adds to the challenges the Trojans face in the backcourt this season.

Despite these setbacks, USC may see the debut of five-star freshman guard Alijah Arenas in January. Arenas, the son of former NBA player Gilbert Arenas, has overcome adversity, including a car accident and a torn meniscus, and his addition to the lineup could provide a significant boost for the Trojans as they navigate Big Ten play.

With a record of 11-1, USC is off to a strong start this season and will look to maintain their momentum as they face tough competition in the coming months. The Trojans recently secured a decisive win over the UTSA Roadrunners and will aim to continue their success on the court.
