Taylor Swift Challenges Cathay Home Inc.'s 'Swift Home' Trademark: Legal Battle Unfolds

Taylor Swift has initiated a challenge against Cathay Home Inc.'s attempt to trademark a new logo for its "Swift Home" bedding line. The logo features the word "Swift" alongside a winged emblem. TAS Rights Management, Taylor Swift's company, has secured an extension until December 2026 to prepare opposition materials with more than two years to build their case. Rebecca Liebowitz from Venable LLP in Washington, DC, is handling the case on behalf of Taylor Swift.
The dispute began in July 2015 when Cathay Home Inc. first sought to register "Swift Home" as a trademark for various bedding products. Despite initial objections from Taylor Swift, the trademark was eventually registered in September 2016 and renewed five years later without opposition. Cathay Home Inc. is known for distributing licensed brands like Lacoste, Anne Klein, and Lenox, operating as a leading distributor of premium textile products based in New York.
In a recent Instagram post, Cathay Home Inc. shared a photo of a dog on its bedding with headphones and Taylor Swift's album cover, captioned with a reference to the singer's music. The company has not responded to the trademark opposition initiated by Taylor Swift.
