Among the projects are a Snoop Dogg biopic, a film directed by Gina Rodriguez, a production by Glen Powell, and Ang Lee's return with "Gold Mountain." The state estimates that this investment will generate $562 million in economic activity across California.
Snoop Dogg expressed his gratitude to the California Film Commission and Governor Newsom for the tax credit, allowing them to tell his story where it all began. The Snoop Dogg biopic, starring Jonathan Davis and directed by Craig Brewer, received over $17 million in incentives, making it the top allocation in this round.
Other projects receiving incentives include an untitled Sony project from Powell, Rodriguez's film "Guerrero," and Lee's "Gold Mountain." These projects showcase the diversity of independent and non-independent films supported by the program. The film and TV program's expansion to $750 million annually has led to an increase in projects and job opportunities in the industry.
Governor Newsom emphasized the importance of California's film and television industry, stating that it is part of the state's identity and heritage. The tax credit awards aim to create jobs, boost local economies, and support small businesses. The upcoming round of tax incentives for TV projects will begin in January 2026, with the application process conducted online.
Overall, the latest round of tax credits reinforces California's position as a global hub for storytelling and entertainment. The state's commitment to supporting the film industry ensures that iconic stories will continue to be produced and shared from California for generations to come.
