Black Music Collective Honors Pharrell Williams, Brandy, and Kirk Franklin at the Fourth Annual Recording Academy Honors Event
The Black Music Collective, a part of the Recording Academy, will host the fourth annual Recording Academy Honors event on January 29, 2026, at the Fairmont Century Plaza. This event will celebrate the careers of music icons Pharrell Williams, Brandy, and Kirk Franklin. Williams will receive the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award, Brandy and Franklin will be honored with the Black Music Icon Award. The BMC aims to empower Black music creators and leaders, having previously honored artists like Alicia Keys, JAY-Z, and Mariah Carey.
Pharrell Williams, a multi-talented artist, has won 13 GRAMMY Awards and is known for his musical achievements, philanthropy, and cultural influence. Brandy, a multi-platinum artist, is celebrated for her powerful voice and genre-defining music. Kirk Franklin, a 20-time GRAMMY Award winner, has redefined contemporary gospel music with his innovative fusion of genres. These artists have made significant contributions to the music industry and continue to inspire artists worldwide.
Williams, in addition to his music career, is involved in various philanthropic endeavors, including founding the nonprofit YELLOW and launching the SOMETHING IN THE WATER festival. Brandy, known as the "Vocal Bible," has expanded her creative work into acting and is set to release her memoir, PHASES. Franklin, a mentor and advocate, supports emerging talent through initiatives like Camp Lotus and champions organizations such as Compassion International and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
The event will be produced by MVD Inc., with Adam Blackstone as the music supervisor. Guests will enjoy specialty cocktails by PATRÓN Tequila during the celebration. The Recording Academy aims to honor music professionals and support the recording arts through initiatives like the GRAMMY Museum and MusiCares. The Black Music Collective works to advance opportunities in Black music and increase representation across the industry.
