The Grateful Dead's Enduring Legacy: The Warfield and Their Continued Success on Billboard's Top Album Sales Chart

The Grateful Dead, despite disbanding in 1995, continues to be a top performer on Billboard's Top Album Sales chart in 2025. The band released The Warfield, San Francisco, CA Oct. 4 & 6, 1980, which debuted at No. 30 on the chart. This live album, like many others from the group, quickly became a bestseller, selling nearly 6,150 copies in its first tracking frame.
The Warfield was part of Record Store Day's Black Friday 2025 event, where fans could purchase the double LP or two-CD collection featuring acoustic sets from 1980. The Grateful Dead has released a total of nine projects on the Top Album Sales chart in 2025, with half of them reaching the top 10. Notably, the Dave's Picks series, including Volumes 54 and 53, peaked at No. 2, while other releases like Blues for Allah and The Warfield also achieved high rankings.
Despite The Warfield being the second-lowest peaking release in 2025, the Grateful Dead has accumulated an impressive 136 appearances on the Top Album Sales chart. Nearly 50 of their projects have reached the top 10, with only one release, Dave's Picks, Volume 49, claiming the No. 1 spot in February 2024. The band's consistent success on the chart showcases the enduring demand for their music among fans.
