Peter Gabriel's 'I Have the Touch' Featured in Marty Supreme: A Musical Journey Through Bath

Peter Gabriel expressed his gratitude to director Josh Safdie for featuring his 1982 track "I Have the Touch" in the upcoming film Marty Supreme, starring Timothée Chalamet. The movie, set in the 1950s, follows Chalamet's character as a rising table tennis star, alongside Gwyneth Paltrow and Odessa A'zion. Gabriel mentioned his excitement about the song being selected for the soundtrack, even though he has yet to watch the film. He shared his love for table tennis and mentioned the buzz surrounding the movie, which he plans to see during the Christmas holiday.

Gabriel revealed that "I Have the Touch" was one of three songs chosen for the Marty Supreme soundtrack that were written and recorded in the city of Bath. He expressed his appreciation to director Josh Safdie for including his song alongside tracks like the Korgis' "Everybody's Got To Learn Sometime" and Tears for Fears' "Everybody Wants To Rule the World." The artist also highlighted the connection between the chosen songs and their Bath origins, adding a personal touch to the soundtrack selection.

"I Have the Touch" is a standout track from Gabriel's fourth self-titled solo album, released after his departure from Genesis in 1975. The song was a regular feature in his live performances until 1986, with rare appearances during his 2007 tour. Gabriel mentioned that table tennis has been a part of his touring experience, with a table always available backstage for crew and band members to enjoy.

The Marty Supreme score, composed by Daniel Lopatin's Oneohtrix Point Never project, will be released on the same day as the film. The collaboration between Safdie and Lopatin promises an intriguing musical backdrop to the movie's narrative. Gabriel's anticipation for the film's release and his appreciation for being part of the soundtrack showcase his excitement for this upcoming cinematic experience.
