2026 World Cup Ticket Prices Spark Outrage Among Soccer Fans

Soccer fans have expressed disappointment with FIFA over the high prices of tickets for the 2026 World Cup. The German soccer federation released a price list showing tickets ranging from $180 to $700 for group stage games and up to $8,680 for the final. This is a significant difference from FIFA's initial claims of $60 tickets being available, causing fan organizations like Football Supporters Europe to criticize the pricing as "extortionate."
The English Football Association also shared pricing information, revealing that attending every game up to the final would cost over $7,000. FIFA had previously announced ticket prices ranging from $60 for group-stage matches to $6,730 for the final, with dynamic pricing being implemented for the first time at the World Cup. The ticket categories vary, with the best seats falling under Category 1.
The FSE called on FIFA to suspend ticket sales through national associations until a more affordable solution is found. FIFA recently launched the third phase of ticket sales, allowing fans to apply for specific matches through a "Random Selection Draw." The updated schedule for the 2026 tournament, co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, has been published, revealing match details and potential matchups like Lionel Messi's Argentina facing Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal in the quarterfinals.
Ticket applications can be made until January 13, 2026, with fans able to apply for up to four tickets per household per match and a maximum of 40 tickets for the entire tournament. Successful applicants will be notified in February and charged accordingly. Prices for the 2026 World Cup tickets are significantly higher than previous editions, with resale prices already exceeding $11,000 for the final at MetLife Stadium.
FIFA has introduced a resale platform where a 15% fee is charged based on the total resale price. Any remaining tickets will be released for general sale closer to the tournament on a first-come, first-served basis. The timeline for the release of these tickets has not been disclosed.
