Queen's Christmas Tree Decorating Event at Clarence House Brings Joy to Seriously Ill Children
The Queen graciously invited seriously ill children to her London residence to participate in decorating her Christmas tree. The event, held at Clarence House, was transformed into a festive grotto, complete with a surprise visit from Father Christmas and his reindeer, much to the delight of the children. The youngsters, who are supported by Helen & Douglas House and Road Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity, were treated to a special day by Camilla, who hosted the annual Christmas party for the 20th year in a row.
Camilla, alongside the children, rode on Queen Victoria’s State Sleigh with reindeer, distributed gifts, and served a festive meal during the heartwarming gathering. The Queen herself was greeted by Father Christmas at her London home, where he presented her with gifts for her pet dogs, Moley and Bluebell. The children, including Samuel Soremekun and Alice Robertshaw, were overjoyed to meet Her Majesty and took part in decorating the Christmas tree, a cherished tradition at Clarence House.
The children, some of whom were in wheelchairs, actively participated in adorning the tree with decorations selected by them. Major Rob Treasure, the incoming equerry to the Queen, used his sword to help place the decorations on the branches, while Major Ollie Plunket, who is stepping down from his role, also lent a hand. After the decorating session, Camilla served a delicious meal of sausages, mashed potatoes, and peas, creatively arranged in a smiley face, as she graciously interacted with the children and their families.
