Gene Simmons Advocates for Fair Compensation for Artists in Music Industry

Gene Simmons recently spoke to Congress about the American Music Fairness Act, which aims to ensure that artists are paid when their music is played on the radio. He emphasized the importance of this act by highlighting artists like Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, and Elvis Presley who never received payment for their radio play. Simmons also mentioned that other countries, such as Russia and China, pay both songwriters and performers for radio airplay, unlike the U.S. He urged Congress to change this injustice and emphasized the need to support artists. At the hearing, Simmons was joined by Michael Huppe from SoundExchange and Henry Hinton, a radio broadcaster who opposed the legislation, citing economic concerns for local radio stations. Simmons' appearance before Congress followed his recognition at the Kennedy Center Honors just days earlier.
