Experience the Magic of Hanukkah at the World's Largest Menorah in NYC

The iconic world's largest menorah is being erected at the edge of Central Park in New York City, marking the start of the Chanukah celebrations. The 36-foot structure, recognized by Guinness World Records, will be illuminated each night from December 14 to December 21. Designed by sculptor Yaacov Agam, the menorah has been a fixture at Grand Army Plaza since 1977, drawing crowds for public menorah-lighting ceremonies, music, dancing, and traditional Chanukah treats like doughnuts and chocolate gelt. The nightly festivities will culminate in the eighth and final night lighting on December 21.
Hanukkah, a commemoration of the rededication of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem, dates back to around 139 B.C. when Judah Maccabee and his followers reclaimed the temple from Syrian rule. The miracle of a single candle burning for eight nights with limited oil inspired the holiday traditions observed today. During Hanukkah, Jewish families light candles on a menorah each night, reciting blessings and reflecting on the significance of the holiday. Acts of charity and social good are also integral to the celebration, embodying the spirit of making the world a better place for all.
