Winners of Marrakech's Atlas Workshop: Celebrating Moroccan, Arab, and African Filmmakers
Moroccan filmmakers Asmae El Moudir and Laila Marrakchi were the joint winners of the €20,000 top prize at the eighth edition of Marrakech's Atlas Workshop, a platform for Moroccan, Arab, and African industry professionals. El Moudir's "Don't Let The Sun Go Up On Me" and Marrakchi's "La Más Dulce" both received funding for their films, which are currently in post-production. Palestinian filmmaker Scandar Copti also won a development prize of €5,000 for his project "A Childhood."
The event featured 28 projects from 12 countries, with 11 participants in the Atlas Station. The prizes, totaling €120,000, were awarded by two separate juries for post-production and development awards. Other winners included Elisé Sawasawa from the Democratic Republic of the Congo for "Goma Enough Is Enough" and Mohammed Hammad from Egypt for "Safe Exit."
The development prizes went to Ique Langa from Mozambique for "Chapa 100," Boubacar Sangaré from Burkina Faso for "Les Dieux Délinquants," Scandar Copti for "A Childhood," and Kamy Lara from Angola for "Vanda." The event showcased a diverse range of projects and provided valuable support to filmmakers from the region.
