This event will be the eighth Heritage Classic and the first since 2023. Winnipeg will be hosting its second outdoor showcase, having previously played against the Edmonton Oilers in 2016. The Jets have a 1-1-0 record in regular-season outdoor games, with a win against the Calgary Flames in 2019.
Montreal will be participating in its fifth outdoor game and its first in nine years. The Canadiens have a 2-2-0 record in outdoor contests, with wins against Edmonton in 2003 and a loss to the Flames in 2011. They have also played in the Winter Classic in 2016 and the NHL100 Classic in 2017.
