Remembering Michael Annett: A Tribute to a NASCAR Legend

Former NASCAR driver Michael Annett, aged 39, has passed away. JR Motorsports, the team he drove for in the Xfinity Series from 2017 to 2021, confirmed his death in a social media post. Annett had a successful career in NASCAR, making over 100 starts in the Cup Series and over 300 starts in the Xfinity Series. His notable achievements include a victory in the 2019 season-opening Xfinity Series race at Daytona and finishing ninth in the points standings that year.

During his time at JR Motorsports, Annett played a crucial role in the team's growth, helping transform it into a four-car organization. He consistently performed well, never finishing outside the top 15 in the Xfinity Series points standings. Annett's most successful season in the Xfinity Series was in 2012 when he drove for Richard Petty Motorsports, securing six top-five finishes and 17 top-10 finishes, ultimately finishing fifth in the points standings.

In the Cup Series, Annett competed in 106 races between 2014 and 2016, driving for underfunded teams like Tommy Baldwin Racing and HScott Racing. Despite facing challenges, he managed to secure six top-20 finishes in his Cup Series career, with his best finish being 13th at the Daytona 500 in 2015. Annett retired from racing after the 2021 season due to a stress fracture in his right leg, which caused him to miss seven races that year. He had also faced injuries earlier in his career, missing races in 2013 after sustaining a fractured and dislocated sternum in a crash at Daytona.

Michael Annett's contributions to NASCAR and his impact on the teams he raced for will be remembered by fans and the racing community. Our thoughts are with the Annett family during this difficult time.
