Idaho Politicians' Spotify Wrapped Revealed: From Jason Mraz to Peppa Pig, Music Tastes Unveiled
Spotify Wrapped is an annual feature that allows users to look back on their music listening habits over the past year. Boise City Council Member Colin Nash had a surprising revelation when he discovered he was in the top 0.7 percent of listeners for Jason Mraz, a musician he claims is not his top choice but rather his wife's preference for easy listening.
The Idaho Statesman reached out to over 120 politicians to gather their Spotify Wrapped recaps, revealing interesting insights into their music tastes. For example, Rep. SoƱia Galaviz was labeled as having a "listening age" of 72 by Spotify, despite being 47 in reality. On the other hand, Nampa Republican state Rep. Jaron Crane's listening age was 27.
Despite their political differences, Idaho's legislators share some common ground when it comes to music. Some, like Boise Democrat Brooke Green and Caldwell Republican Camille Blaylock, found themselves listening to the soundtrack from "KPop Demon Hunters" due to their children's influence. Sen. Ali Rabe's top artists included Peppa Pig and The Wiggles, reflecting her children's music preferences.
Music also serves as a way for some politicians to relax after a long day of politics. Rep. Jon Weber's top artist, Rola Young, is described as calming and relaxing, providing a respite from the stresses of the Capitol. Governor Brad Little's top songs from Amazon Prime Music included hits like "One Margarita" by Luke Bryan and "It Ain't My Fault" by Brothers Osborne.
While some politicians were eager to share their music preferences, others were less familiar with the concept of Spotify Wrapped. Rep. Bruce Skaug and Rep. Mark Sauter expressed confusion or lack of knowledge about the feature. Some politicians, like Boise City Council Member Jimmy Hallyburton and Boise state Sen. Melissa Wintrow, prefer listening to music on old-school vinyl records or other platforms like Pandora.
For fans of Taylor Swift, there's good news as she appeared as the top artist for Boise Mayor Lauren McLean and Boise City Council Member Luci Willits. The diversity of music tastes among Idaho's politicians showcases their individuality and provides a glimpse into their personal lives beyond the political arena.
