Grateful Dead Sets Guinness World Record with 66 Top 40 Albums on Billboard 200

The iconic band, the Grateful Dead, has achieved a remarkable milestone by being awarded the Guinness World Records title for the most Top 40 albums charted on the US Billboard 200. With a record-breaking 59th Top 40 entry in February 2024, the band surpassed legends like Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra. The Grateful Dead has now extended their own record to 66 Top 40 albums, including their latest release, Dave’s Picks Vol. 56: Rainbow Theatre, London, England – 3/20/81 & 3/21/81.
David Lemieux, the Grateful Dead's legacy manager and archivist, expressed gratitude for the dedication and loyalty of the band's fans, known as Dead Heads, and highlighted the consistent quality of the Grateful Dead's music over the past six decades. Mark Pinkus, President of Rhino Records, praised the band's legacy and commitment to preserving it through archival releases, marking a fitting end to the band's 60th-anniversary celebrations.
This Guinness World Records achievement comes at a significant time for the Grateful Dead, as they were honored in the 47th class of the Kennedy Center Honorees and named the 2025 MusiCares Persons of the Year. Rhino Records also released the band's first official greatest hits compilation, Gratest Hits, a comprehensive 60-CD collection titled Enjoying the Ride, and The Music Never Stops box set, further solidifying the band's enduring legacy in the music industry.
