YouTube Recap: A Year in Review of Your Video and Music Habits

YouTube has introduced a new feature called Recap that allows users to review their video-watching habits from the past year. This feature highlights top channels, interests, and changes in video preferences over time through up to 12 cards. Users will also be assigned a "personality type" based on their viewing habits, such as Adventurer, Skill Builder, and Creative Spirit, similar to Spotify's listening personality types. Recap is now available for YouTube users in the US and will be rolled out globally this week, accessible on both mobile devices and desktop.

In addition to video-watching habits, Recap will also include stats related to music listening, such as top artists and songs. However, this feature does not replace the existing Recap experience for YouTube Music, which provides an annual review of top artists, songs, genres, and podcasts. YouTube Music app users will still have a separate Recap available within the app. Alongside the launch of the video Recap feature, YouTube has shared trend charts showing popular topics, creators, podcasts, and songs among US users this year.

Some notable trends include MrBeast remaining the top creator and The Joe Rogan Experience ranking number one in the podcast category. Interestingly, the KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack was less popular in Shorts compared to its dominance on the general top songs chart. The Recap feature aims to provide users with a personalized and engaging way to reflect on their video-watching and music-listening habits over the past year.
