Rock Legends' Wardrobe: John Bonham's Iconic Leather Coat and More Sold at Auction

A leather coat previously owned and worn by the iconic Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham was recently auctioned off for over £15,000. The auction, conducted online by Fieldings Auctioneers in Stourbridge, featured a collection of Bonham's personal items, including the 1970s brown leather jacket with a brown faux fur trim collar, which fetched £15,300. Another highlight of the auction was a 1970s western-style cream embroidered shirt worn by Bonham during a shooting day for the film The Song Remains The Same, selling for £12,200. Additionally, a 1978 blue velvet suit and two western-style shirts were also sold during the auction, fetching varying prices.
Before the auction, Allan Weaver, Bonham's brother-in-law and the owner of the collection, drew comparisons between the brown coat and one featured on the front cover of Led Zeppelin's album II. However, the auctioneers could not confirm if they were the same coat and advised potential buyers to verify the authenticity themselves. The blue suit, which had a label from Robinson Bespoke tailors in Redditch, Worcestershire, where Bonham was a regular customer, was also up for auction. Lawrence Robinson, the owner of the tailoring firm, shared anecdotes about Bonham's unique style and his frequent requests for new suits after gigs or parties.
The auction of John Bonham's personal items, including the iconic leather coat and other clothing pieces, attracted significant interest from fans and collectors alike. The historical significance of these items, worn by one of rock music's most legendary drummers, added to their appeal and contributed to the successful auction results. The legacy of John Bonham and Led Zeppelin continues to captivate music enthusiasts worldwide, making memorabilia associated with the band highly sought after. The auction provided a rare opportunity for fans to own a piece of rock history and connect with the iconic musician's legacy.
