Remembering Michael DeLano: A Tribute to the Iconic Actor and Singer
Michael DeLano, a renowned actor and singer recognized for his portrayal of Johnny Venture in the popular CBS series Rhoda, has passed away at the age of 84. His wife, Jean DeLano, confirmed that he suffered a fatal heart attack on October 20 in a Las Vegas hospital.
DeLano's career began in 1940 as a dancer on American Bandstand in Philadelphia. Transitioning to music, he signed with Swan Records as Key Larson, releasing hits like "A Web of Lies" and "A Little Lovin’ Goes a Long, Long Way." He later ventured into acting, adopting a new stage name inspired by a neon sign, and appeared in various TV shows and films.
One of DeLano's notable roles was as Johnny Venture in Rhoda, where he charmed Valerie Harper's character in 11 episodes from 1976 to 1978. Throughout the 1980s, he continued to secure roles in TV shows like Flamingo Road and films such as Commando alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger.
DeLano's diverse career included appearances in Hollywood Man, 9 to 5, and Another Stakeout, as well as guest spots on popular TV series like Charlie’s Angels and The A-Team. He later starred in Steven Soderbergh's Ocean's Eleven remake as a casino manager, reprising the role in the 2004 sequel, Ocean's Twelve.
Survived by his wife, daughter Bree, and grandchildren Michael, Lincoln, and Jaxon, Michael DeLano leaves behind a legacy of memorable performances and contributions to the entertainment industry.
