Variation: A Ballerina's Journey - From Page to Screen

Amazon MGM Studios is currently working on a film adaptation of Rebecca Yarros' popular ballerina novel "Variation." The screenplay for the movie is being written by Christy Hall, known for her work on "It Ends With Us." The production is being led by President Barack and Michelle Obama's Higher Ground and Misty Copeland, a former principal dancer at the American Ballet Theatre. "Variation" tells the story of a ballerina who returns to her family's Cape Cod summer home to recover from a career-threatening injury and reunites with a Coast Guard rescue swimmer from her past. As they navigate their unresolved feelings and uncover family secrets, they are forced to reevaluate their choices.
Rebecca Yarros, the author of the "Fourth Wing" series, which is also being adapted for TV by Amazon, has several book-to-screen projects in the works. In addition to "Variation," adaptations of her books "In the Likely Event" and "The Last Letter" are in progress. "Variation" is the first feature film produced by Misty Copeland's Life in Motion Productions, which aims to showcase movement storytelling in various mediums. Copeland, the first Black female principal dancer at the American Ballet Theatre, has previously produced acclaimed documentaries and narrative shorts.
Higher Ground, the production company founded by the Obamas, has a track record of successful film projects, including the Academy Award-winning documentary "American Factory" and the recent Netflix thriller "Leave the World Behind." The news of the "Variation" film adaptation was initially reported by The Washington Post.
