Remembering Mary Tyler Moore: A Tribute to Love, Tradition, and Giving Back
Dr. S Robert Levine fondly remembers the beautiful wedding dress that Mary Tyler Moore designed for their special day. Reflecting on their wedding day, he recalls the joy of having their friends and colleagues, including the cast of The Mary Tyler Moore Show, celebrate with them. One memorable moment was when their observant Jewish colleagues lifted Mary and him on chairs, symbolizing a cherished tradition. The happiness on Mary's face during that moment was truly special.
Continuing to honor Mary's memory, Levine is dedicated to the Mary Tyler Moore Vision Initiative, which aims to give back to the community that loved her. He recently auctioned off some of Moore's possessions as he prepared to move out of their shared home, carefully selecting items for a future museum exhibit dedicated to her. The process of deciding what to keep and what to offer was challenging, but he found solace in knowing that others would appreciate and find joy in her belongings.
Levine now surrounds himself with the important items from their collections in a more intimate setting, finding comfort in having them close to him. While parting with some of Mary's possessions was difficult, he believes that they should have another life for others to enjoy. The memories and treasures they shared continue to bring him comfort and joy in his smaller, more intimate space.
