Dramatic Coast Guard Rescues Along the Oregon Coast: Saving Lives and Promoting Safety

The U.S. Coast Guard recently conducted dramatic rescues along the Oregon coast, saving three lives in the process. The first rescue on November 5 involved crews from Air Station Astoria, Station Tillamook Bay, and Station Cape Disappointment. They airlifted a person from a sailboat trapped in rough conditions with high winds. The second rescue that night involved a father and his 5-year-old son who were rescued after their boat overturned near the Columbia River mouth. The Coast Guard emphasized the importance of safety measures like carrying a VHF radio, filing a float plan, and wearing a life jacket to prevent accidents at sea.
