The Beatles' Anthology Collection: Unveiling the First-Take Version of 'In My Life' and More

The Beatles' Anthology Collection box set and Anthology 4 compilation are set to be released on November 21. A digital track of the first-take version of the classic song "In My Life" has been unveiled. The track includes studio chatter at the beginning, with John Lennon expressing dissatisfaction with the weight of his guitar. The piano solo by producer George Martin is absent in this version, which was recorded in 1965 at EMI Studios in London.

"In My Life" was recorded on October 18, 1965, with three takes done that day. The first take features the full group playing live, while the second track showcases Lennon on lead vocals and McCartney on harmony. Lennon wrote most of the lyrics and music for the song, with McCartney contributing to the middle-eight section. The nostalgic theme of remembering past friends and lovers is central to the song.

Anthology 4 includes 13 previously unreleased tracks and can be pre-ordered in various formats. The collection curated by producer Giles Martin features studio outtakes, alternate takes, and a live performance. It also includes the singles "Now and Then," "Free as a Bird," and "Real Love," with new mixes. The Anthology Collection, available in different formats, comprises remastered versions of the original Anthology compilations.

The Beatles Anthology docuseries will be restored and expanded for a nine-episode series on Disney+. The ninth episode will feature unseen behind-the-scenes footage of the band members reuniting in the 1990s for the Anthology project. A new trailer for the updated docuseries has been released, showcasing archival footage, photos, and interviews with the band members. The series promises to provide a deeper insight into the band's history and collaborations.
